Shooting! again....

So i have been to dingles and shot a friend in her Best Burlesque gear! here is a few of the images i captured that i am actully very happy with! i feel that the images look very in keeping with the theme! the only problem i fanced was lighting how ever i let this work to my advantage by using a high ISO and as a result getting grainy images however this looks intentional because of the style of photography it worked very well!

This is my favorite image of the shoot it has classic soft light on it to create a soft glow and flawless effect on the skin, and is also made very soft because of the white fans creating an almost angelic feel to the image!

Back to the drawing board!...Again!!!

So i'm thinking again! and i think this idea is going to be the one! or at least i hope so! time is getting on and im still not getting anywhere, so im thinking!
i never work with models or do fashion stuff with people so maybe this would be a good route to go down, to get me more into this kind of photography, after all this is something that in the future could be usefull as it is often a good way of making money photographing people, weather it is fashion or portraits!
I am thinking with my close relation to Burlesque and vintage themes i would like to re-create some 1940's/50's looking shots, looking at image from the era and some more recent re-creations, this should be a good start for me to get into photographing people, having lots of burlesque friends it should be easier for me to direct people than a complete stranger so i think it would give me a good starting point!

Magnus Hastings is a london based photographer who works with many burlesque dancers in particular Immodesty Blaize!

Being a Burlesque dancer she knows how to pose so i imagine alot of the poses were thought up by her rather than the photographer, but i like the way she works with many of the classic poses, the lying on her front with legs up at the back is very classic pin up, aswell as the classic shocked almost blow up doll type face!

These are all poses i would like to re create!

The photographer Danielle Bedics has shot the famous Dita Von Teese many times i really like his style as he uses the classic candy colourd back drops that were a very signature look of the pin up photgraphy when colour photography came in, i like the idea of using this in my own work (however i thnk i would like to shoot on location, at the moment i am looking at Dingles Fairground Heritage Museum, as i have modelled for vintage shoots here myself and it would make a perfect location!)

I want to use classic Props like fans, parasols and have the model dressed in traditional style so corsets, frilly knickers gloves and heals!
I would like to use a soft light on the model to make it more Vintage looking giving it that hollywood look! i may also shoot many of the images in black and white to add the older look to the images!
Pose wise i will leave it mostly up to my model as she is also a burlesque dancer and knows what looks good!

One of the most famous Burlesque/Pin up photographers of there time was Gene Laverne from Buffalo, who photographed some of the biggest names sin burlesque at the time, photographing such beauties as Blaze Fury,  Ann "Bang Bang" Arbor and satans angel, to name a few.

Bruno Bernard of hollywood was also a very big name back in the day of the classic burlesque beauties!
He photographed many of the greats, such as Yvette Dare, Winnie Garrett and Sherry Britton.

The beautiful Yvette Dare with her signature act companion for "the dance of the sacred parrots" which was critically acclaimed as one of the most artisitc and thrilling perfomaces ever seen!

I think these images are a good starting point to look at pose's that i could ask my mode to re create, getting them to re create classic poses from the era, such as the lying down with legs in the air, or the hand outstretched with a beautiful pair of ostrich fans in hand!

Editing!

okay so ive had a go at editing some of my images to look a bit more interesting and failed! im really not happy with the results of my shoots! when i thought about the idea it sounded promising! but it hasnt turned out how i wanted it to! here are some examples of some rough edits i did to try and make them look more old film like...

 

I think i may also abandon this idea, i would however really like to re shoot all of these on film when i have the money, as i think with more careful planning and more money i could make these images look exactly how i want them to, along the lines of Alec Soth's work! i do think the concept is worth while finishing i just need a bigger budget!!

I also found this project interesting looking at the houses i have lived in as they have progressively got nicer, my mum was a single parent bringing us up and we didn't have a lot of money, it has started at living in flats and a council house progressively getting nicer, she started her own business and has become quite successful the images go from living in flats and a council house with nothing to living in a 5 bedroom detached country cottage with a horse! so i also feel it is a story of my mums success and hard work! then it goes downhill as i for some reason decided to move out from a lovely house and move above the skiving scholar which was single glazed had no heating or hot water! my bed sheets used to freeze in the winter! as did the inside of my windows which every morning would be covered in ice! also as you can imagine having single glazing and living there wasnt exactly quiete! i did have the option to move home whenever i wanted but didnt. god only know why! but now i live in a nice 2 bedroom flat so it turned out okay in the end!





So ive been around to a few of the places i used to live and taken some images! not amazingly impressed with how they have turned out, it has been difficult to get some of the image's i drove all the way down to deepest darkest cornwall to take some photo's and the person who owned the house came out and wasnt very impressed with me taking pictures even after i asked them nicely and told them what it was for! pretty big waste of time and petrol! but hey ho! so one of the houses i lived in wont be included!

But here are a few of the shots i have so far!

I also decided to take some images of road signs, places of interest and schools i attended-

 Primary School door which has changed since i attended the school! it used to be an old wooden door, i found it interesting seeing the changes in places i don't often visit, even though it is only over the Tamar bridge i never venture to this part of Saltash!

When i was about 8 i had a friend who's parents owned the 2nd garage in, it used to have an old sofa and lots of toys and even a slide in it we used to hang out in here everyday, the most memorable thing that happend was when i was jumping on the sofa and i swallowed a ball of chewing gum i had been chewing for about a week (putting on the bed side table at night... hygenic!) the ball of chewing gum was about 3 packs worth and i chocked on it!!!

 Tincombe nature reserve it was weird visiting this place because i literally hadnt been here since i was about 9, and it find it strange how differntly you rememeber things from childhood to what they actully were! when i rememberd this place i thoughht it was a huge lake like pond! but the fact of the matter is that it is no bigger than a small car, i used to rememebr sitting on the edge of the wooden walk way playing with newts and frogs, again a very happy memory from childhood!

 A rubbish picture but a more recent  home in Gunnislake! couldnt get a  good picture of this house as the house has a very long front garden i didnt want to intrude  by going in the garden even though im fairly sure the people who brought the house off us still live there!

I pretty much spent 24/7 here for about 2 years! we used to camp here, drink here, "try" to skate here and pretty much live here!!

 The pub i used to go to when i was 16, the deal was here was if they liked you they would serve you, regardless of your age! it was a great place with a great atmosphere and great veiw of the tamar valley! i find it weird now that they served me they never new my age but they did like me, so it was okay but i look young enough now so i cant understand how 5 years ago i got away with that! i did hang out with people who were all at least 19 so this may have been how! or that it was in the middle of nowhere so perhaps they didnt care about the police etc! either way i had to walk home via completly pitch black country lanes for about a mile to get home! scary stuff!
